Recreation ~ Intermediate Trails
Black River Trail
Flat Terrain
Take a leisurely hike around the picturesque grounds of the Hawk Inn and along the mouth of the Black River.
Marshland Trail
Intermediate
Hike into Hawk's beautiful wooded marshland atop a unique interconnection of wooden bridges where wildflowers bloom in springtime. A wonderful trail for viewing Jack-in-the-pulpit, water arium, bunchberry and starflowers, you will pass along the border of our Forest Preserve under a canopy of tall pines. This trail then continues around the spring-fed swimming pond, eventually leading to Lake Amherst where the Hawk Marina is outfitting patrons with everything from paddle boats and canoes to kayaks and surf bikes.
The Ledges Trails
Intermediate
These trails offer several starting points, all accessible from the Ledges Villas. Hike into the woods on miles of interconnecting trails with varying degrees of difficulty. These trails are at an altitude above 1700 feet and offer amazing views of Hawk topography.
Bobcat Run
Intermediate
This trail is not that difficult to hike once you get there; however, it is surrounded by two advanced trails - Whitetail Way and Rim Run - for which it serves as an interconnect. The bobcat is feisty, nocturnal and seldom-seen. Its den can often be found in rocky crevases and their claw marks can be found on various trees.
