Recreation ~ Nature Exploration
Residing at the heart of the Resort property, the 70-acre Hawk Nature Preserve serves as an ever-changing sanctuary for migrating birds and other wildlife. Located on the valley floor between the Inn and the Marina on Lake Amherst, the Preserve provides a truly unique glimpse into a living, breathing ecosystem fed by the Black River, which operates as its lifestream.
One of the largest riparian watersheds in all of New England, the Hawk Preserve contains a circuitous network of nature trails and wooden walking bridges which, in the warm-weather months, provide pathways to knowledge for visitors interested in learning about the incomparable Vermont environment.
Explore the Nature Preserve and survey a wide variety of flora and fauna with one of Hawk's expert guides on a scheduled tour. These excursions are ideal for those who enjoy a slow-paced hike on level terrain.
Discover hidden treasures, such as an enchanting apple orchard neighboring the Hawk Stables, and a remote observation blind where you can just relax and wait for elusive wildlife to come into view. And for some nature exploration of a different kind, check-out Hawk's extensive network of hiking trails that will bring you deep into the forested woodlands that occupy much of the remainder of Hawk's 1,200 acres.
