Recreation ~ Boating ~ Canoeing
Quietly paddling down a calm, winding river through the rural countryside while shadowed by gently sloping mountains on both sides - for some reason the image just seems to strike at the base of our civilization. It is a symbol of man's ability to achieve harmony with nature.
People have traveled by canoe on the waterways of this part of the world for well over a millennium. Today, climbing into one of these boats simply to drift and explore remains both peaceful and reflective, while one can almost imagine returning to a simpler time. Discover just how easy it can be for your mind to escape from the urban realities that characterize our modern existence. Paddle the length of Lake Amherst and then head through the mouth of the Black River and see just how far upstream you can travel (it will be different depending on the seasonal water levels).
But regardless of the distance you can cover by canoe, one thing is guaranteed: you will be visiting some of the most isolated and magical areas of the Resort, deep inside the river's tributaries into the heart of Hawk's 70-acre Nature Preserve.
