Recreation ~ Special Excursions
Sporting Clays at the Tinmouth Hunting Preserve
Sporting clays simulate flight patterns of game birds in their natural setting. The Tinmouth course presents a variety of shots thrown from different stations. Whether you want to tune your eye for the hunt or just enjoy the excitement of breaking clays, you'll find sporting clays a fun way to sharpen (or test) your shooting skills. Guns, shells and instruction provided, so give it a try.
Land Rover Driving School
Learn to really master the sport utility vehicle at Land Rover's first dedicated off-road driving school in the United States. You'll experience a variety of challenges including natural obstacles throughout the 800-acre preserve. And you'll gain knowledge on handling and driving finesse, care for the environment, and passenger safety, so your next off-road adventure will be your best.
The British School of Falconry
We invite Hawk guests and residents to get closer to our "roots" with this unique opportunity to learn how to handle a hawk. Practice your newfound skills with this raptor in the hunting field at Tinmouth, working together with a trained hunting dog. While one lesson may not qualify you as an expert falconer, you'll at least achieve a terrific introduction to this ancient art with one of the school's team of Harris hawks.
Dartmouth vs. Harvard Football Game & Tailgate Picnic
Autumn foliage, cool weather, bulky sweaters and college football! It's Homecoming at Dartmouth, and Hawk will be there. But even if you're not a Dartmouth or Harvard alum, the tailgate party is well worth the trip. Join the fun as we depart by van to Hanover for the ultimate New England autumn experience. Kick-off is at 1:00 p.m. Tickets, transportation and tailgate picnic are included.
Foliage Touring
Each year we have a variety of outings to take advantage of Vermont's spectacular leaf-peeping season from a variety of perspectives. From llama trekking in the Green Mountains to hikes along the Long Trail to ferry rides across Lake Champlain, Hawk has the perfect excursion for you to observe the colors of this magical season.
